Educator.
Born in the Rural Municipality of Silver Creek on 24 July 1897, daughter of Alice Maude Burgess (1874-1935) and Elias Lincoln Vandecar (1865-1953), she grew up on the family farm in Township 19 Range 26 West.
She attended teacher training and embarked on a life-long career in education, including teaching at Hazel Grove School (1915), Thornhill School (1921-1922, Principal), Holland School (1922-1924, Vice-Principal), Gladstone School (1926-1927), Arden School (1927-1928, Principal), Wawanesa School (1928-1929, Principal), Crandall School (1929-1932, Vice-Principal), and Russell School (1932-1936, Vice-Principal).
She next moved to Winnipeg and joined the teaching staff of the Winnipeg School District, teaching at Isbister School (1938-1939), Pinkham School (1939-1942), Norquay School (1947-1954), Alexandra School (1954-1955), Weston School (1955-1956), Greenway School (1956-1958, 1959-1962), and St. Joseph’s Vocational School (1958-1959) before retiring around 1963.
On 1 November 1941, she married David Albert Foster (1886-1968) at 157 Chestnut Street in Winnipeg. They took up residence at 341 Queenston Street and had a son, John Foster, and later resided at 173 River Oaks Drive in St. James. She later retired to the Salvation Army’s Golden West Lodge.
She died at the Grace Hospital on 21 June 1990 and her cremains were interred in the Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens.
