Memorable Manitobans: Rhoda May Gibbs Small (1908-2003)

Educator.

Born at Winnipeg on 28 December 1908, daughter of Samuel A. Gibbs and Rhoda Nuttall, she spent her first few years of elementary education in England then returned to Manitoba and attended Hazelridge School, Wesley College, Central Normal School, and the University of Manitoba. She began a long teaching career at Gunton Consolidated School, later moving to Rossmere School. She served as Principal of Hazelridge School (1931-1937, 1939-1943) and Lindal School (1937-1939). She married David Small and had two children. She died at Winnipeg on 23 October 2003.
