Memorable Manitobans: Percy Raymond Stapley (1926-2014)

Lawyer.

Born at Winnipeg in 1926, son of William Albert Stapley and Mable Elsey, he attended Queenston School, Robert H. Smith School, Kelvin High School, United College, and the University of Manitoba. He then established a private law practice in partnership with A. S. Morrison and Thor Guttormsson, then became legal counsel at N. M. Paterson and Sons (Global Foods). He was made a Queen’s Counsel.

He served on the boards of the Arthritis Society and Grace Hospital for many years. In recognition of his service on Civic Charities, he received a City of Winnipeg Community Service Award (1971). He enjoyed speed skating, curling, and golf.

He died at Winnipeg on 3 June 2014 and was survived by a widow and four children.
