Memorable Manitobans: Clifford Garfield Saunders (1900-1991)

Educator.

Born in the Rural Municipality of Stanley on 28 November 1900, son of Isaac Saunders (1860-1944) and Sarah Cooper (1865-1970), he was the Principal of Fairfax School (1926-1931) and Boissevain School (1931-1934). In 1934, he joined the teaching staff of the Winnipeg School Division and taught at Hugh John Macdonald School (1934-1936), Laura Secord School (1936-1938), and Kelvin High School (1938-1953). He was Vice-Principal (1953-1955) of Cecil Rhodes School (1953-1955) and Principal of Inkster School (1955-1958) and Wellington School (1958-1966) before retiring in 1966. He and wife Julia Ellen Rombough (1907-2001) had no children. He died at Winnipeg on 22 July 1991.
