Cleric.
Born at Collumpton, Devonshire, England on 9 February 1886, son of William and Eliza Patteson, he grew up in Exeter where he learned lithography and received a second-class order of merit from the City and Guilds of London. At the age of 14, he became a member of the Methodist Church and began teaching Sunday School. He came to Canada in 1909 and worked as a missionary in Saskatchewan, at Wawota, Antler, and Ossa. After attending Wesley College, he became an ordained Methodist minister in June 1916.
He served as a minister at Cartwright Methodist Church (1916-1919), Medora Methodist Church (1919-1922), Waskada Methodist/United Church (1922-1926), Rivers United Church (1926-?), Sturgeon Creek United Church (11 years), and Eden United Church (?-1944). In 1944, he moved to Cavalier, North Dakota and spent seven years as minister at its Presbyterian Church. He then served at Milton, North Dakota until retirement in June 1957, at which time he moved to St. James.
On 28 June 1915, he married Nellie Evelene Vaughan (1885-1975, daughter of Ellen and George Vaughan) at Winnipeg and they had three children: Arthur Wesley Hugh “Wes” Patteson (1918-1974), Lewis Vaughan “Pat” Patteson (1920-2014), and Edith Evelyn Patteson (1923-?, wife of Owen Hanson).
He died at his St. James home on 14 June 1962 and was buried in the St. Vital Cemetery.
