Memorable Manitobans: James Richard Churchill Graydon (1940-2024)

Educator.

Born in New Zealand on 7 August 1940, he served in the Army Reserves before moving to Scotland where he met and married his wife, Betty Ann. They moved to Winnipeg where he taught at Faraday School (1972-1974). He then moved into school administration as the Vice-Principal of Lord Roberts School (1974-1975) and Principal of Luxton School (1975-1979), William Whyte School (1979-1982), Isaac Brock School (1987-1989), Wellington School (1989-1990), and John M. King School (1990-1997). In retirement he was a student advisor in the Faculty of Education at the University of Manitoba and served as Chair of the Board of Regents for the University of Winnipeg. He died at Winnipeg on 23 May 2024, survived by his wife and two daughters.
