Memorable Manitobans: George Montgomery “Monty” Dunbar (c1928-2001)


Born at Brandon around 1928, son of ? Dunbar (?-1971) and ? ? (?-1967), he attended King George School, Earl Haig School, and Brandon Collegiate Institute. He also received BA and BEd degrees from Brandon College and the University of Manitoba. He taught at Anola and Minnedosa before joining the Brandon School Division in September 1951 where he taught at Alexandra School (?-?), McLaren School (?-?), and Brandon Collegiate (1958-1959). He also served as Principal of McLaren School (1959-1964), Earl Oxford School (1964-1966), Valleyview School (1966-1968), and Valleyview School (1966-?). He ended his teaching career in 1990 as a teacher at Betty Gibson School. He died at his Pelican Lake cottage on 14 September 2001 and was buried in the Rosewood Memorial Gardens.
