Memorable Manitobans: Edward James “Ted” Bloomer (1924-2012)Grocer, hotelier. Born at Winnipeg in 1924, son of farmer Leonard Sheldon Bloomer (1889-1966) and Kathleen Naomi Ruth Brittin (c1902-1955), his childhood was spent in Headingley. As a young man, he served in the Royal Canadian Navy then returned to Manitoba with go into the grocery business with his family. Later, in partnership with his brothers, he built and operated the Charleswood Motor Hotel. He later owned and managed other hotels and remained in the hotel business for the rest of his career. He served as President of the Manitoba Hotel Association and Western Hotel Association. He was a member of the Charleswood Curling Club (President, 1955-1956), Charleswood Golf Club, Warren Golf Club, and Royal Canadian Legion.
