Athlete, entrepreneur.
Born at Winnipeg on 24 November 1928, son of farmer Leonard Sheldon Bloomer (1889-1966) and Kathleen Naomi Ruth Britton (c1902-1955), brother of Edward James “Ted” Bloomer and Lloyd Bloomer, he was raised on a farm at Headingley. He played hockey for the New York Rangers for seven years and, in 2003, he was inducted into the Manitoba Hockey Hall of Fame as a former member of the Winnipeg Maroons Hockey Club. Active in diverse businesses, he owned hotels, heavy equipment franchises, and oilfield companies, developed real estate, and promoted rock concerts in the 1960s. He died in British Columbia on 13 October 2014, survived by four children.
