Born at Aberdeenshire, Scotland on 24 August 1862, he came to Canada in 1888. He worked as a building contractor at Winnipeg in the early 20th century. He and wife Jessie Ann Anderson (1860-1939) had no children. He was a member of the Granite Curling Club, Strathcona Curling Club, Odd Fellows (Union No. 14), and Augustine United Church. He died at his Winnipeg residence, 114 Spence Street, on 16 March 1937 and was buried in the Elmwood Cemetery.
