Cleric.
Born at Winnipeg on 9 April 1925, he was educated at Wellington School, Greenway School, and Daniel McIntyre Collegiate, then worked as a clerk for a year with Scott-Bathgate. He enrolled at United College in 1942 and received Arts (1946) and Theology (1949) degrees.
In 1949, he was ordained as a United Church minister and served at Lyleton United Church (1949-1951), Atlantic United Church (1954-1960), First Church United at Thunder Bay (1960-1969), First United Church at Hamilton (1969-1978), Chalmers United Church at Kingston (1978-1983), Timothy Eaton Memorial Church at Toronto (1983-1988), and Forest Hill United at Toronto (1988-1990).
He served as Secretary to the Student Christian Movement at the University of Manitoba (1951-1954), President of Manitoba Conference (1963), represented the United Church on The World Methodist Council and the World Alliance of Reformed Churches, was Co-Chair of the Constitutional Commission on Church Union (late 1970s), and was Co-Chair of the International Theological Commission of the Anglican Consultative Committee. He was also the United Church Chair of the Inter-Church, Inter-Faith Committee and Secretary of the Commission of the Church in the Twentieth Century. A member of the Executive of the United Church, he was elected a delegate to seven General Councils, as well as serving on the Judicial Committee and the Vacancies Committee. In recognition of his service, he received an honorary doctorate from United College (1971).
On 9 June 1950, he married Lois Miriam Freeman and they had two daughters and two sons.
He died at Toronto, Ontario on 26 December 2005.
