Memorable Manitobans: Andrew Rieger Sobering (1896-1967)Educator. Born on 10 November 1896, he taught school for around 30 years in rural Manitoba. He worked at Gruenfeld School (1917-1918), Spencer School (1920-1921), Greenland School (1921-1922), Arran School (1926-1927, 1943-1946), Edward School (1931-1933), Hamburg School (1933-1934), Shakespeare School (1937-1938), Woolwich School (?-?), Bothwell School (1946-1948, Principal), Moray School (?-?), Ridgewood School (1951-1952), Spencer South School (1952-1955), Willow Plain School (1957), Barkfield School (?-?), and Friedensfeld School (?-?). He retired to Steinbach before later moving to Winnipeg. He married Judith Doerksen (c1904-2005) and had three daughters: Madeline Sobering (wife of Clarence Reimer), Margaret Sobering (wife of Edgar Reimer), and Mary Ann Sobering (wife of Donald Canfield).
