Physician and surgeon.
Born at Seaforth, Ontario on 13 July 1902, son of Thomas Richardson and Catherine Campbell, he came to Winnipeg and attended public school and Wesley College, graduating with a medical degree from the University of Manitoba, specializing in surgery, in 1936. He did postgraduate studies at the New York Memorial Hospital and in London, England and was certified as a surgical specialist by the Royal College of Surgeons of Canada.
He practiced medicine at Brandon for two years then returned to Winnipeg where he worked until enlisting in the Canadian Armed Services in September 1939. He went overseas in January 1940 and returned in July 1945 with the rank of Colonel, having served in England, Sicily, Italy, and northwest Europe. Most of his service was with the No. 5 Canadian General Hospital, becoming its Colonel and Commanding Officer. He was inducted into the Order of the British Empire (OBE), received the Efficiency Decoration, and was mentioned in despatches.
On returning to Winnipeg, he resumed his surgical practice on the staffs of St. Boniface Hospital and Deer Lodge Hospital, and was a Professor of Surgery at the University of Manitoba. He served as President of the Manitoba Medical Association (1947-1948), held executive positions on the Canadian Medical Association, and was an adviser to the provincial health minister. After retirement he was a consultant to the Manitoba Health Services Commission until his death.
On 1 July 1938, he married Irene Elva Crozier (?-?) of Carnduff, Saskatchewan at Winnipeg. They had a daughter and two sons. He was a member of the Theta Kappa Pai Medical Fraternity, Royal Canadian Legion, Alcrest Golf Club, Pine Ridge Golf Club, and Niakwa Country Club. He was a Liberal candidate in the Winnipeg South Centre constituency in the 1957 federal general election.
He died at his Winnipeg residence, 191 Brock Street, on 16 September 1974.
