Born at Winnipeg around 1931, son of Samuel Price Rattray and Dorothy St. Claire Davis (?-1978), he attended Queenston School, Kelvin High School, and the University of Manitoba, receiving a degree in Architecture from the latter. During a career as an architect, he practiced in the firm of Duncan Rattray Peters and Searle until, in 1969, it merged to become Moody Moore and Partners (MMP). He served as President of the Manitoba Association of Architects (1971-1972).
On 3 June 1960, he married nurse Gail Charlotte Hartley (c1938-2022) and they had four children. He was Campaign Chair of the United Way (1976) and President of the Granite Curling Club (1972-1973) and Manitoba Club (1991). He was a member of the Southwood Golf Club and St. Charles Country Club, and served on the board of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. He had a summer cottage on Treaty Island in Lake of the Woods and, in later years, a winter home on Longboat Key in Florida.
He died at Winnipeg on 12 September 2022.
