Memorable Manitobans: Allan Redvers Mitchell (1900-1975)Educator. Born at Birtle on 24 December 1900, son of William Mitchell (1870-1958) and Isabella Craid Hay (1876-1948), he attended Birtle School and Foxwarren School and received a teaching certificate from the Central Normal School. He taught at Nyland School (1923) prior to becoming Principal of Fleming School (1929-1938) in the Brandon School District. While in Brandon, he married Mary Alberta Harrup (1906-1992) at St. Matthew’s Anglican Cathedral on 27 December 1933. He had a daughter and a son. He moved to Winnipeg and changed careers, working as a salesman for Tremco Manufacturing, before relocating to Edmonton, Alberta (1969-1973), then to White Rock, British Columbia where he worked as a building maintenance supply salesman. He died at White Rock on 14 April 1975.
