On 27 June 1925, he married Phyllis Garside Holt (1902-1986) and they had three children: Ileen Ruth Lockhart (1927-1987, wife of Robert Brydon), Shirlee Lockhart (wife of Mike McCoy), and Keith Lockhart. He was a member of the Masons (Glenboro Lodge) and Baldur United Church. He died at Baldur on 26 March 1978 and was buried in the Neepawa Cemetery.
