Memorable Manitobans: Norman Valentine James (1887-?)

Veterinary surgeon.

Born at Portage la Prairie, Manitoba on 17 February 1887, son of W. J. James and Annie Ironside Simpson, he graduated from the Ontario Veterinary College in 1908 then the University of Toronto the year later. He returned to Portage as an associate in the veterinary firm of Taylor & Wilson, later moving to Gladstone where he purchased the practice of Dr. Shoultz. On 21 July 1908, he married Jeanette McLeod at Winnipeg. He was a member of the IOOF and the Modern Woodmen of America.
