Memorable Manitobans: Kathleen Margaret “Kay” Gillespie (1912-2010)

Librarian.

Born at Winnipeg on 19 April 1912, one of six children of Anne Winnifred Marion Munroe (1884-1956) and Robert Alexander Gillespie, she received a BA degree from the University of Manitoba (1933). She worked in the stock photo library of the National Film Board then was involved with program research at the CBC. From there, she spent ten years as the Chief Librarian for the Winnipeg Free Press. In 1967, she was hired as the Chief Librarian for the newly-established Museum of Man and Nature. She died at Winnipeg on 7 November 2010.
