Memorable Manitobans: Josephine Ernestine Fenny (1919-2018)
Born at Winnipeg on 28 July 1919, daughter of Gaston de Goesbriand (1892-1941) and Josephine Gallais (1893-1962), she graduated from St. Mary’s Academy and College in 1939 then received BA, MA, and BEd degrees. She worked for the Winnipeg School Division, teaching at Mulvey School (1944-1950), Earl Grey School (1950-1956), and Queenston School (1956-1961), and serving as the Principal of Argyle School (1961-1965), Cecil Rhodes School (1965-1968), George V School (1968-1971), and Carpathia School (1973-1979). She was later Deputy Assistant Superintendent. On 19 July 1943, she married Lieutenant Walter Joseph Fenny (1915-?) and they had a daughter Alixe Marie Fenny (1947-2014) before separating. She died at Winnipeg on 16 February 2018.
