Memorable Manitobans: Robert Walter “Bob” Cross (?-2008)

Educator.

Son of Robert McIlroy “Bob” Cross and Jeane Ethelyne Webber (?-2002), he graduated from the Manitoba Teachers’ College (1956) and attained BA (1960), BEd (1961), and MEd (1968) degrees from the University of Manitoba. Within the Winnipeg School Division, he taught at Kent Road School (1956-1961), J. B. Mitchell School (1961-1965), and St. John’s High School (1965-1969), was Vice-Principal of Adult Education Centre (1969-1970) and Elmwood High School (1971-1972), on sabbatical (1970-1971), and Principal of River Elm School (1972-1973). On 2 November 1957, he married Eleanor Stelman at St. Matthew’s Angican Church in Winnipeg on 2 November 1957. He died of cancer at Concordia Hospital on 4 April 2008.
