Memorable Manitobans: Raymond Matthew Bates (1941-2017)Educator. Born at East Selkirk on 11 May 1941, son of Matthew Bates (1915-1982) and Pearl Bates (?-?), he received BSc and BEd degrees from the University of Manitoba. He taught in the Winnipeg School Division at Earl Grey School (1964-1966) and Kelvin High School (?-?) and served as Vice-Principal of Sargent Park School (?-?) and Principal of Queenston School (1974-1984) and Gladstone School (1984-2009).
