Educator.
Born at Kirkella on 23 December 1933, son of Russian Mennonites Maria Froese and David Winters, his family soon moved to Altona where he grew up on the family farm. He attended the Mennonite Collegiate Institute and Manitoba Teachers' College before beginning a career in education, teaching at Melba School (1955-1956) and Jefferson Junior High School (1960-1962). In August 1966, he married Marge Thorkilson and they had a daughter and later a son while he was a doctoral student at Michigan State University. After graduation, he returned to Winnipeg where he served as the Principal of Centennial School (1974-1975), Ken Seaford Junior High School (1979-1980, 1993), James Nisbet School (?-?), and Maples Collegiate (?-1995). In retirement he worked to establish schools in St. Kitts and Nevis as part of the Organization for Cooperation in Overseas Development. He died at Winnipeg on 15 August 2021.
