Memorable Manitobans: Wilbur Herman Pollard (1898-1962)Printer. Born at Winnipeg on 10 February 1898, son of Oliver Herman Pollard and Janet Agnes Reid (1869-1946), during the First World War he served overseas with the Fort Garry Horse. Returning from military duty, in 1919 he joined Saults and Pollard Limited. He served as President of the Graphic Arts Industries Association of Winnipeg. On 17 September 1921, he married Aleta Jean Scarlett (1899-1983, daughter of Robert A. Scarlett) at Portage la Prairie and they had three sons: Earle B. Pollard, Douglas Arthur Pollard (1924-2010), and Lawrence O. Pollard. He was a member of the Masons (Prince Rupert Lodge), St. Andrew's River Heights United Church, Canukeena Club, Winnipeg Winter Club, Manitoba Club, and St. Charles Country Club. He died at the Winnipeg General Hospital on 14 November 1962 and was buried in the Garry Memorial Park. Sources:Birth registration, Manitoba Vital Statistics.
