Clive Madison McCann

Educator, civil servant.
Born at Fergus Falls, Minnesota on 31 December 1880, as a young boy he accompanied his family to Canada and settled at St. John, New Brunswick. They later moved to Montague, Prince Edward Island where he obtained a teaching certificate.
In 1911, he came to Manitoba and worked as a teaching Principal at Waskada School (1911-1918). He moved to Winnipeg in 1918 as Chief Clerk in the Department of Education, holding the position until June 1929 when he succeeded John William Fleming as Civil Service Commissioner for the Province of Manitoba. He was Chairman of the Manitoba Film Censor Board (1935-1937).
He and wife Harriet Ethel Trecarten (1881-1951) had three children: James Madison McCann (c1908-1962), Robert T. “Bert” McCann (1910-1927), and Julia Grace McCann (1916-1992, wife of Ian Alexander McIntosh). He was a member of the Southwood Golf Club and St. Johns Curling Club (President, 1937).
He died at his Winnipeg residence, 238 Lansdowne Avenue, on 4 August 1937 and was buried in the Elmwood Cemetery.
