Born at Argyleshire, Scotland in 1887, he came to Newfoundland in 1903 but returned to Scotland a few years later. In 1910, he returned to Canada and homesteaded in Saskatchewan for some time and was employed by the Federal Grain Company. In 1929, he formed the Peter Leitch Construction Company at Kerrobert, Saskatchewan and moved to Winnipeg with his family in 1932, where he worked on major construction projects until retirement. He and wife Margaret Elizabeth Leitch (?-1982) had three children: Lorne Campbell Leitch (1925-1998), Peter Leitch, and Peggy Leitch (wife of H. W. R. McMillan). He was a member of the Carleton Club, Elmhurst Golf Club, and Granite Curling Club (President, 1942-1943). He died at his Winnipeg residence, 290 Oakwood Avenue, on 11 February 1947 and was buried in the Brookside Cemetery.
