Memorable Manitobans: Walter Kaczor (1905-2003)

Gymnast, movie stuntman.

Born at Winnipeg on 26 March 1905, he attended McPhillips School, Lord Nelson School, King Edward School, and St. John’s High School. In 1932, he won a bronze and two silver medals at the Canadian Gymnastics Championships at the Toronto Exhibition. He took a lead role in forming the Winnipeg Universal Athletic Club (UAC) and started an acrobatic and boxing burlesque act in the 1930s. He performed throughout Manitoba and toured the United States before going on to highly successful career as stunt performer in Hollywood movies until retirement at age 65. He died at Winnipeg on 24 September 2003 and was interred at the Brookside Cemetery.
