Memorable Manitobans: James Irvine (1867-?)
Realtor. Born in Glengarry County, Ontario in 1867, son of Duncan Irvine and Elizabeth Stewart, he worked on the family farm until the age of 17, then went into cheese and butter making. In 1902, he came to Winnipeg and began working as a sales agent with the Manitoba Land and Investment Company. Two years later, he formed his own business, James Irvine and Company. His office was located at 513-515 McIntyre Building, Winnipeg. He was also Vice-President of the Portage la Prairie Development Company. Sources:The Story of Manitoba by F. H.
