Educator, athlete, coach.
Born at Winnipeg around 1934, son of Emmanual Richard “Dick” Hazell and Alice Mary Easton, he grew up in Norwood and attended Norwood Collegiate and Bemidji State University, receiving a Bachelor of Physical Education from the latter. He taught Physical Education at Windsor Park Collegiate (?-?), Springfield Collegiate (?-?), and Glenlawn Collegiate (?-?), coached basketball, and organized an annual inter-provincial invitational tournament.
He left teaching to work for a few years with his father-in-law at Westnofa Furniture then worked briefly in real estate before returning to teaching Physical Education at Lavallee School (?-1993) and Darwin School (1993-1994) until retirement in 1994. He was inducted into the Manitoba Basketball Hall of Fame, as a player (1991), as a coach (1996), and as a builder (2009). He was inducted into the Manitoba Sports Hall of Fame as a coach (2009) and the Manitoba Softball Hall of Fame (?).
On 21 April 1962, he married Ruth Alice Oterholm at Norwood United Church and they had two daughters.
He died at the St. Boniface Hospital on 13 August 2011.
