Educator.
Born at Rama, Saskatchewan in 1925, the son of Michael Yakimyshen, he graduated from St. Joseph’s College, obtained BA (1954), BEd, and MEd degrees from the University of Manitoba, and undertook a 33-year teaching career. He began teaching in the Seven Oaks School Division in 1954, working at West Kildonan Collegiate before becoming Vice-Principal at Jefferson Junior High School and Edmund Partridge Junior High School, and later Principal of Jefferson Junior High School and Garden City Collegiate (1967-1984). He served as a Captain in the Royal Canadian Intelligence Corps (Supplemental Reserve) and was Secretary-Treasurer of the Suburban Collegiate Athletics Association (1956-1957). In 1954, he married Elizabeth Hickman (1932-2013, daughter of Roger Newell Hickman) and the couple had two daughters and one son. He died on 1 July 1984 and is commemorated by the Jake Yakmission Memorial Scholarship in the Seven Oaks School Division.
