Grain merchant.
Born at Duluth, Minnesota on 13 August 1904, the son of James Thomas Hickman (c1872-1945) and Amy Florence Hickman (1873-1940), he attended both elementary and high school in Winnipeg and took post-secondary education at the University of Minnesota. Following a year at sea, in 1930 he entered the grain business, as a grain broker for the Hickman Grain Company Limited. He worked as Eastern Sales Manager (1943-1945) and Assistant Sales Manager (1945-1949) for the Canadian Wheat Board, General Manager (1949-?) and Vice-President of the Norris Grain Company, Director of the Three Rivers Grain and Elevator Limited (1949), Norris Securities Limited, Lake Shippers Clearance Association, and Chairman of the Winnipeg Grain Exchange (1956-1958). On 28 May 1930, he married Hilda Marie Wilson (?-1974) at St. Stephen’s Anglican Church in Calgary, Alberta. The couple had one daughter, Elizabeth Joan Hickman (1932-2013, wife of Jacob Michael “Jake” Yakmission). He died at the Misericordia Hospital on 23 January 1985.
