Memorable Manitobans: John Mahan “Joe” Venables (1936-1998)
Born at Winnipeg on 6 March 1936, son of John “Jack” Venables (c1901-1987) and Mildred Mahan (c1901-1994), in 1961 he received a degree in Architecture from the University of Manitoba. He practiced as an architect with the firm of Pratt Lindgren and Associates. On 1 August 1959, he married Margaret Rose “Peggy” Irwin at St. Aidans Anglican Church and they subsequently had two children before separating. He died after a lengthy illness on 10 March 1998.
