Memorable Manitobans: Berthe Yvonne Granger Valcourt (1914-1996)Educator. Born at St. Jean Baptiste on 19 August 1914, youngest child of Victorine Vermette (1866-1938) and Arthur Granger (1852-1924), she attended St. Jean Baptiste Centre School and the Central Normal School. She began a 39-year teaching career at Haywood then spent 27 years in the Norwood School Division, retiring in 1977 as Vice-Principal of King George V School. On 4 July 1940, she married Germain Paul Valcourt (1915-1993) at St. Boniface and they had a daughter before divorcing. She was a member of the Fort Rouge Legion. She died at the St. Boniface Hospital on 21 December 1996 and was buried in the Green Acres Memorial Gardens. Sources:Birth and marriage registrations, Manitoba Vital Statistics.
