Businessman.
Born at Paisley, Scotland on 28 April 1835, he attended private schools at Paisley and Glasgow then worked at a shawl manufacturing company. In 1867, he moved to Canada and settled at Collingwood, Ontario where he worked in retail trade. He came to Winnipeg in 1881 and was a wholesaler's agent and commercial traveller. In 1889, he began to work in the flour milling and grain business of D. H. McMillan and Brother. He was an accountant in the office of the Warehouse Commissioner from 1900 to his death. In 1869, he married Margaret McMillan (?-?, sister of Daniel Hunter McMillan) and they had four sons: William H. Thomson, husband of Annie Isabel Balfour), J. Crawford Thomson (husband of Adelaide E. Watson), Henry W. Thomson, and Gordon M. Thomson (wife of Ivy Irene Ritchie). He died at Winnipeg on 12 February 1909 and was buried in the Elmwood Cemetery.
