Community activist.
Born at Winnipeg on 19 April 1935, daughter of Alice Maud Thring (1904-1991) and Reginald Frederick Wightman, she grew up in St. James and received an Arts degree (1956) from the University of Manitoba. On 19 September 1957, she married Lawrence Schmidt (?-?) and they had three daughters. She worked as a librarian, freelance writer, arts administrator, and medical receptionist. She wrote books and stories about history. In 1974, she received a McWilliams Award honourable mention from the Manitoba Historical Society for an essay entitled “Reports and Letters of the Reverend W. H. Taylor”. She died at Winnipeg on 27 February 2023.
