Memorable Manitobans: William Pawley Rundle (1855-1920)

Educator, insurance agent.

Born at Toronto, Ontario on 28 July 1855, he taught school for several years. In 1882, he married Elizabeth McInnis (1858-1936) and moved to Manitoba in 1889, settling at Portage la Prairie. He managed the Urban Mutual Insurance Company for many years.

He and wife Elizabeth McInnis (1858-1936) had 13 children: Edna Rundle (1883-?, wife of Alfred Trott), Lena May Rundle (1884-?, wife of William Robson Campbell), Edison John Rundle (1887-?), E. Pearl Rundle (1889-?), Nell Irene Rundle (1894-1967, wife of Leonard Dunstan Heaton), Alfreda Pearl Rundle (1889-?, wife of Hugh Alexander Lawson), Olive Elizabeth Rundle (1890-?, wife of William Garnet Thomas), Walter Wesley Rundle (1895-?), Etta Ruth Rundle (1897-1979, wife of Oliver Victor Jewitt), Florence Marjorie Rundle (1898-?, wife of Howard Thomas Body), M. Flora Rundle (1899-?), William Leslie Rundle (1900-?), and Frances Alberta Rundle (1902-?, wife of ? Pidgeon).

He moved to Winnipeg in 1911 and died at the Winnipeg General Hospital on 9 May 1920. He was buried in the Elmwood Cemetery.
