Born at Sunnybrae, Nova Scotia on 8 December 1867, he came to Winnipeg in 1903 and worked in building construction with his brother Duncan James Ross in the firm of Ross Brothers until retirement in 1944. They built many summer cottages at Dunnottar. He was a member of Knox United Church. He died unmarried at Winnipeg on 15 March 1951 and was buried in the Elmwood Cemetery. At the time of his death, he lived in Suite 4 of the Ross Apartments.
