Born at Sunnybrae, Nova Scotia on 2 April 1865, he came to Winnipeg in 1887 and joined his brother Hugh Ross, and later his brother Neil Ross, in the construction firm of Ross Brothers. They built houses around Winnipeg and summer cottages on Lake Winnipeg. He had a summer cottage at Matlock and was a member of Knox United Church. He died unmarried at the Victoria Hospital on 21 July 1947 and was buried in the Elmwood Cemetery. At the time of his death, he lived in Suite 6 of the Ross Apartments.
