Memorable Manitobans: George Walter Rogers (1875-1942)

Physician.

Born at Newmarket, Ontario on 6 March 1875, son of George Faulkner Rogers (1837-1902) and Hannah B. Bond (1841-1925), he came to Plumas with his family in 1878. He attended the Manitoba Medical College then established a practice at Kelwood. He moved to Dauphin in 1914 where he continued practicing medicine in partnership with William James Harrington and was the local coroner.

In 1905, he married Emma Gertrude Fisher (1879-1946) at Winnipeg and they had three sons: George Faulkner Rogers (1906-1988), Arthur Harrison Rogers (1910-1957), and William Rogers (1921-?). He was a member of the Odd Fellows and the Dauphin Rotary Club (President). He held executive positions in the Dauphin Golf Club and Dauphin Curling Club. He was President of the Dauphin Liberal Association and President of the Manitoba Medical Association (1934-1935).

He died at the Dauphin General Hospital on 28 April 1942 and was buried in the Dauphin Riverside Cemetery.
