Memorable Manitobans: George William Neufeld (c1916-1985)

Educator.

Born around 1916, he worked as a teacher in rural Manitoba classrooms, at Gnadenthal School (1948-1950), Calder School (1950-1953, Principal), and Winkler School (1953-1957) before moving to Winnipeg. He taught in the St. James School District No. 7 (c1957-1958) then the North Kildonan School District No. 2116 at Princess Margaret School (1958-1959) and served as Vice-Principal and teacher at Springfield Heights School (1960-1967). Around 1949, he married fellow teacher Helen “Helene” Sawatzky and they had three daughters. He died at the Misericordia Hospital on 15 October 1985 and was buried in the Brookside Cemetery.
