Memorable Manitobans: Peter Scott Morse (1927-2018)
Born at Winnipeg on 29 May 1927, son of Harry Dodge Morse and Tena Bell (?-1963), he was educated at Ravenscourt School, University of Manitoba (BA 1948), and Manitoba Law School (1952). He also attended the Royal Canadian Naval College at Royal Roads, British Columbia and served with the Royal Canadian Navy Reserve from 1946 to 1951.
He practised law with the firm of Aikins, MacAulay and Thorvaldson (1952-1975), eventually becoming a senior partner. He was made a Queen’s Counsel in 1965. He served as President (1972-1973) and Life Bencher (1973-2018) of the Law Society of Manitoba. He served as Puisne Judge on the Court of Queen’s Bench from 1975 until retirement in 2002.
He was married twice, first on 18 September 1954 to Marjorie Jane Bull (1927-1980, granddaughter of Manlius Bull) with whom he had two sons and a daughter. In 1983, he married Margaret Chown McDonald. He was Chancellor of the Anglican Diocese of Rupert's Land and received a honorary Doctor of Canon Law degree from St. John's College.
He died at Winnipeg on 5 December 2018.
