Born in Germany around 1895, he came to Winnipeg with his family in 1926 and, around 1948, he established the construction firm of John Miller and Sons Limited and Miller's Hardware Limited. He and wife Bertha Miller (c1899-1980) had four children: Jack Miller (?-?), Margaret Selma Miller (1920-2011, wife of E. Murray McClarty), Mildred Miller (1924-2012, wife of Victor J. Steek), and Ephraim “Eph” Miller (1925-2007). The family lived at 864 Bannatyne Avenue. He was a member of McDermot Avenue Baptist Church. He died at the Winnipeg General Hospital on 21 September 1972 and was buried in the Brookside Cemetery.
