Physician.
Born at Selkirk, Scotland on 4 June 1887, he received his early education at Canadian public schools prior to attending the Manitoba Medical College. He graduated with an MD in 1909. During the First World War, he served with the Canadian Army Medical Corps, as a Major with the Third Field Ambulance in France, returning to March 1916, then going back overseas as Lieutenant-Colonel of the 11th Field Ambulance. He commanded the Bushey Park Military Hospital in England (1917-1919) and, following his return to Canada in 1920 was attached as a medical officer to the soldiers’ civil re-establishment. For his military service, he received the DSO (1917) and was twice mentioned in despatches.
He was a lecturer (1914-1924), associate professor of Gynecology and Obstetrics (1924-1939), and full professor (1939-1946) at the Medical College, as well as Chief of the Gynecology and Obstetrics Department at the Winnipeg General Hospital and St. Boniface Hospital, and at one time acting Superintendent at the Winnipeg General Hospital. He chaired the Maternal Welfare Committee of the Canadian Medical Association and served as President of the Manitoba Medical Association (1926-1927).
On 30 March 1921, he married Flora Hansina Stevens (1894-1954) at Winnipeg. They had a daughter, Roberta Jean McQueen (1922-2006, wife of R. W. Keys). The family lived at 283 Yale Avenue.
He died at the Winnipeg General Hospital on 17 October 1948 and was buried in the Elmwood Cemetery.
