Memorable Manitobans: Archibald George McCurdy (c1883-1966)Merchant. Born at Milton, Dakota Territory [now North Dakota] around 1883, he came to Winnipeg in 1905 and formed a partnership with Joseph Edwin Braid in the building supply firm of Braid and McCurdy. In 1929, he bought out his partner and continued to operate under the name of McCurdy Supply Company until his retirement as President in 1949. On 19 November 1913, he married Mary Magdalene Watt (?-1978) at Winnipeg and they had three children: Grace Magdalene McCurdy (1916-2001), Marian Agnes McCurdy (1917-2003), and Archibald Roy McCurdy (1920-1945). He was a member of the Greater Winnipeg Lumber Dealers Association, Building Material Dealers Association, Canadian Builders Supply Association (President, 1946), St. Andrew's River Heights United Church, Masons (Ionic Lodge), Kiwanis Club of Winnipeg, Manitoba Club, St. Charles Country Club, Winnipeg Winter Club, and Granite Curling Club. He died at his Tuxedo home, 130 Lamont Boulevard, on 30 January 1966 and was buried in the Brookside Cemetery.
