Memorable Manitobans: Edward Charles “Ed” Mandrake [Mandryk] (1938-2010)Military officer, MLA (1988-1990). Born at Ethelbert on 1 October 1938, one of three children of Walter Mandryk (1915-1983) and Tina Merko (?-?), he moved with his family to Regina, Saskatchewan in 1950. In the late 1950s, he joined the Royal Canadian Army Service Corps and served in Germany for three years. He was elected to the Manitoba Legislature, representing the Assiniboia constituency, at the 1988 general election. He was defeated at the 1990 general election. On 19 May 1958, he married Marie Wiwchar (1937-2019) and they had a daughter. He was a member of the Masons (St. James Lodge No. 121). He died at Winnipeg on 2 May 2010.
