Memorable Manitobans: Finlay Mackenzie (1864-?)General merchant. Born at Ross-shire, Scotland on 3 October 1864, one of four children of Alexander Mackenzie and Catherine Munroe, he worked in the dry goods business at Inverness until emigrating to Canada in 1888. He worked in a store in Ontario for two years then came to Manitoba where he became a partner in the general store of Chisholm and Mackenzie at Morris. On 6 June 1896, he married Nellie C. Smith. He was a member of the Masons and the Orange Lodge. He served as clerk of the county court, a municipal councillor, and a school trustee. Sources:The Story of Manitoba by F. H.
