Memorable Manitobans: Michalina Karasiewich “Min” Lanoway (1914-2006)Educator. Born at Seech on 8 February 1914, daughter of Stephen ”Stefan” Karasivich (c1885-1974) and Anastasia Szwaluk (?-1990), she moved with family to Shoal Lake in 1921 and graduated from high school via correspondence. She attended the Central Normal School and taught at Mohyla School (1934-1936) and Angus School (1936-1942). She earned her Principal’s certificate (1942) and was Principal of Hazelridge School (1943-1945) and Eriksdale School (1945-1947). On Christmas Eve 1949, she met John S. Lanoway (1916-1991). They were married in 1950 and had three children. She died at Winnipeg on 27 August 2006 and was buried in the Green Acres Cemetery. Sources:Birth registrations, Manitoba Vital Statistics.
