Educator.
Born at Vita on 4 May 1937, son of John Kostynyk and Kate Booychuk, he lost his parents at a young age and was raised by step-parents Mike Kostynyk and Nellie Kostynyk. He attended Sundown School and the Provincial Normal School, after which he taught at Solway School (1955-1956), Brightstone School (late 1950s), Riverland School (1960-1964), and at Shamattawa before heading to the North West Territories to teach at Arctic Red River. He returned to Manitoba and served as the Principal of a school at Cranberry Portage for 11 years where he was also a driving force in establishing the Early Childhood Education Lending Library. He later joined the Frontier School Division’s main office before retiring from education at the age of 55, then working as a technical analyst in the financial sector. He and his wife, Lorna, had one son. He died at the Victoria Hospital in Winnipeg on 1 September 2010 and was buried in the Lac du Bonnet Cemetery.
