Memorable Manitobans: David S. Kaufman (1899-1984)

Chemist.

Born in Russia on 6 June 1899, he came to Canada in 1921 and graduated magna cum laude from the University of Manitoba (1927). After postgraduate training at North Western University in Chicago, he returned to Winnipeg to work as a chemist, agriculturalist, and superintendent of production for the Dominion Malting Company from 1927 until retirement in 1965. He and wife Fannie ? (?-?) had two children: Barry Kaufman (husband of Barbara) and Sondra Kaufman (wife of Allan Gotlieb). He was a member of numerous scientific organization and was a longstanding member of Shaarey Zedek Synagogue. He died at the Health Sciences Centre on 5 July 1984 and was buried in the Shaarey Zedek Cemetery.
