Thomas Jackson
|
Born at Warton, Lancashire, England on 3 August 1862, son of Thomas Jackson (1818-1884) and Mary Ann Robinson (1818-1870), he came to Canada in 1882 and, for three years, worked on construction of the Canadian Pacific Railway through the Rocky Mountains. He returned to Lancashire in 1885 and was married there, after which he returned to Winnipeg and, in 1887, founded the construction firm of Dobson and Jackson.
In 1908, he established the building supply, fuel, and contracting business of Thomas Jackson and Sons of which he was President. He was also President of the Nelson River Construction Company that did work throughout western Canada and also built bridges and roads around Toronto and Montreal.
He was married twice, first on 27 April 1886 to Eliza Edmondson (1862-1920) at Lancashire, England and they had three children: John Jackson, James Jackson, and Mary Isabel Jackson (1891-1884, wife of Donald Flett). The family lived at 389 Balmoral Street (circa 1911). On 3 November 1922, he married Mary Elizabeth Sitlington (1866-1939) at Winnipeg.
He died at his Winnipeg home, Suite 6 Panama Court, on 21 April 1935 and was buried in the Elmwood Cemetery.
