Memorable Manitobans: Linda Marie Giesbrecht (1952-2013)Lawyer, judge. Born at Altona on 25 July 1952, daughter of Peter and Evelyn Giesbrecht, her childhood was spent on the family farm near Plum Coulee. She was educated at the W. C. Miller Collegiate and the University of Manitoba Law School, graduating from the latter in 1976. She was called to the Manitoba Bar in 1977 and became a Crown Attorney at Winnipeg then at Dauphin until 1981, then at Portage la Prairie from 1982 to 1988. In the latter year, she was appointed a Provincial Court Judge, serving until 2010. She was the first female President of the Provincial Judges Association (2000-2002).
